Steam Market: unlock trading and check tradable items

Reference data: 1.0.0i. Supporting documentation does not state a version. Steps have not been tested in game.

Create an Online character with your own copy of the game, then unlock the Auctioneer in Aldenreach at level 5 for 500 gold. Check the item's Tradable tooltip before upgrading, socketing or uploading it.

Start with an Online character

Trading is an Online feature. Choose the mode when creating the character; the release FAQ describes no in-game switch from Singleplayer to Online. An existing Singleplayer character should not be treated as a trading character.

You also need your own copy of Deskrawl for Online mode. Family Sharing, Free Weekend and PC café licenses can still use Singleplayer. That license restriction comes from the developer’s 1.0.0h update.

Unlock the Auctioneer

In your first town, City of Aldenreach, reach level 5 and pay 500 gold to unlock the Auctioneer. These are the requirements listed in the 1.0.0i release data. The Auction House is in Aldenreach; ordinary town vendors selling loot for gold are a different service.

Open the market or upload an item

For buying, use the Auction House’s Buy Items entry. Patch 1.0.0i added that button and changed both market buttons to open inside Steam. You can also open the Deskrawl Steam Market directly; check that the game is App 4623570.

For a drop you want to sell:

  1. Read its tooltip and look for Tradable.
  2. Check that it has not been upgraded, socketed or bound.
  3. Put a qualifying item in the Auction House slot and use Upload. The release data describes uploads of up to eight items.
  4. The uploaded item leaves the game and goes to your Steam Inventory, where Steam’s trading and market controls apply. Items received from another player appear under Received Items; withdrawing or claiming sends them to the in-game mailbox after a cooldown.

Which items qualify?

The Auctioneer’s release text names Black Mist equipment, Divine equipment, Set Runes and Legendary Reins. Some require higher difficulties to obtain. This describes qualifying categories; it does not mean every item in one of those categories is still unbound or currently listed for sale.

The market snapshot checked for this guide contained several Legendary Reins, but it did not confirm listings for every eligible category. Check the Tradable tooltip on the item you want to sell.

Action Trading consequence
Upgrade equipment Makes that item permanently untradable
Add a socket Makes that item permanently untradable
Reveal Black Mist properties Makes that item permanently untradable
Equip a Set Rune Makes that rune permanently untradable

If an item will not upload

Check character mode, license and Auctioneer unlock first. Then check the tooltip and the item’s upgrade, socket and binding history. A visible public listing does not guarantee that your copy of the same item qualifies.

Prices and Steam account restrictions can change; read the current Steam prompt before completing a transaction. The steps and item rules above are based on release 1.0.0i data and the developer’s entry-change announcement. Transactions and earnings have not been tested here.
