Vulnerable: apply it and understand the separate damage bonuses

Reference data: 1.0.0i. Steps have not been tested in game.

Vulnerable increases damage taken by 30%; an item bonus against Vulnerable targets is an additional conditional multiplier.

Separate the status from the equipment bonus

In the 1.0.0i combat reference, Vulnerable makes the target take 30% more damage. A stat called Damage to Vulnerable enemies is a separate conditional attacker bonus. It only works while the target has the status.

For a simplified example with no other conditional bonuses, Vulnerable and +20% damage to Vulnerable targets give 1.3 × 1.2 = 1.56. That example omits the game’s other stages and rounding; it is not a predicted damage number for your character.

Choose a skill that applies Vulnerable

Class Available source Prerequisite or condition
Warrior Valiant Strike A chance on its basic hit, not permanent uptime
Warrior Deadly Hook Skill unlock at level 25
Warrior Heavy Blow 10-point capstone; direct strong-attack critical hit
Hunter Flare Skill unlock at level 25; applies the status to enemies it reaches
Monk Chain Force 10-point capstone; every seven of your own basic-attack casts
Sorcerer Arcane Exposure 60-point capstone; every six of your own strong-attack casts

An equipment bonus against Vulnerable targets does not by itself apply Vulnerable. Choose an application source first, then decide how much of the actual fight satisfies the condition.

Count your casts correctly

Patch 1.0.0h changed cast-count talents: only your own casts count, not attacks from minions or summons. Death or changing area resets the counters. The patch also excludes effects it calls “repeated casts”, but does not define which effects that covers.

Do not assume multiple projectiles, Spirit Twin attacks or a minion’s hits immediately satisfy a seven-cast requirement. Check the status icon on the target and its remaining duration. A short fight or a gap between targets can leave a large conditional item bonus inactive for much of the run.

Choose between reliable damage and conditional damage

If your current setup applies Vulnerable often enough, the conditional stat can fit the build. If the source is not unlocked, requires a critical hit you rarely land, or expires before the important attacks, compare a bonus whose condition is actually met.

Test the same map and check how long Vulnerable stays active, along with the results of each clear. Status uptime and affix performance have not been measured here, so use your own results to decide whether the bonus fits your build.
